FIRST DAY AT J.M.U.

In this blog post by Mike Barko, he extends his heartfelt gratitude to Rob, Karen, and Johan for their invaluable help in sharing the gospel over the past three days, resulting in an incredible 70 individuals professing their faith in Christ alone. The post then goes on to share inspiring stories from their downtown encounters, highlighting the transformative power of understanding and embracing the message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. These stories include individuals like Ashley, Dakota, J.T., and Ashley, who came to grasp the significance of Jesus as their Savior. Mike also shares stories from their visit to J.M.U., where Karen played a pivotal role in leading students to Christ. The encounters demonstrate how the power of faith can change hearts and minds, as seen in the testimonies of Bemnet, Ryan, Macaela, Jarvis, Erica, Tekoa, James, Dom, Connor, Alexis, Luke, Liam, Josh, Sophia, Sarah, Jordan, Darron, and Jamie, who all embraced the message of Christ's grace. The post concludes with encounters at the cross and a car show, where Mike and his team continued to share the gospel with individuals of all ages. These encounters, like those throughout the post, showcase the profound impact of faith in Christ and the joy that comes with understanding and accepting God's love and grace. Overall, this blog post is a testament to the transformative power of faith, the tireless work of dedicated individuals in spreading the gospel, and the life-changing encounters that can happen when people come to know Christ as their Savior.

MINISTRY PROFESSIONS OF FAITH

SEPT 4 COURT SQUARE 21
SEPT 5 JAMES MADISON 27
SEPT 6 CROSS LIGHT 01
SEPT 6 NAZARENE CAR SHOW 21

Thank you Rob, Karen, and Johan for your help in sharing the gospel the last three days. We saw 70 people profess saving faith in Christ alone.

A FEW STORIES FROM DOWNTOWN

Ashley thought she would go to Heaven because God had healed her of breast cancer. Ashley is like many people with whom we share. They have 'trusted God as their healer', but haven't 'trusted God as their Savior.' Today, Ashley understood God's sacrifice for her on the cross and was able to trust Him as her Savior.

Dakota initially told me that he went to church three times a week. He then told me he was going to go to Heaven because he was a good person. Thankfully, after hearing the gospel, Dakota was able to transfer his trust from his goodness and only trust in God as his Savior.

The Holy Spirit came in a special way as I shared with J.T. and Ashley. Listen to their testimony after they placed their trust in Jesus...

J.T..."HE OPENED HIMSELF UP IN MY HEART TODAY."

Ashley..."I'M NOW 1000% SURE! AMAZING!"

Kevin had literally just walked out of jail right before I met him. I was able to share the gospel with him, and he placed his faith in Christ.

Rob got to lead this young man to Christ...

FIRST DAY AT J.M.U.

Thank you Karen for coming out and helping to share the gospel. Karen led her first two students to Christ. My first two students walked off.

I was struggling at first. By the grace of God, I persevered and the Spirit came. I am so thankful that so many students are willing to stop and talk with us.

Here is Bemnet from Ethiopia. He was mingling law with grace. In other words, he hoped he would go to Heaven because 'he believed in Jesus and obeyed the ten commandments.'

If we add our works to His as the basis of our salvation, there is no way we can be 100% sure of going to Heaven. We have fallen from grace. (Galatians 5:4) Bemnet heard the gospel and placed all of his trust in Christ alone.

"HE SAVED ME...WONDERFUL."

Ryan, Ryan, and Aly came next. I shared and they prayed...

"HE TOOK OUR TRUST."

Next was Macaela. She heard and prayed...

"HE GAVE ME ETERNAL LIFE...WONDERFUL."

It was a joy to share with Jarvis, Erica, and Tekoa. They all initially gave religious answers and were not completely trusting in Christ. All three heard the gospel and prayed with me.

Jarvis..."HE CAME INTO MY HEART AND BECAME MY SAVIOR. (MY HEART FEELS) GOOD, FULL, AND COMPLETE."

Erica..."HE CAME INTO MY HEART. I PUT MY TRUST FULLY IN HIM. (MY HEART FEELS) REALLY GOOD AND OVERJOYED!"

Tekoa..."HE SET ME FREE AGAIN. (MY HEART FEELS) OVERJOYED."

James and Dom were two Catholic students. They were hoping God would let them into Heaven because they 'went to Mass and were good Catholics.' Both heard the gospel and were eager to place their trust in Christ alone.

James..."HE ENTERED MY LIFE. (MY HEART FEELS) FOREVER GRATEFUL AND FULL."

Dom..."HE ENTERED MY LIFE. (MY HEART FEELS) FULL."

Here is Connor. He was initially unsure as to whether or not Heaven even existed. After hearing the gospel, I was very surprised and happy that he wanted to place his faith in Jesus...

ReachingTheLost-Mike-Barko-First-Day-At-JMU-Connor
ReachingTheLost-Mike-Barko-First-Day-At-JMU-Connor

Connor..."HE TOOK ALL MY SINS AWAY. I ACCEPTED HIM."

Alexis was trusting in her goodness. She heard the gospel and wanted to trust in Christ instead...

Alexis..."HE SAVED ME. (MY HEART FEELS) EXCELLENT."

Here is Luke and Liam. Like most people they were sincere. Only one minor problem...just sincerely wrong. Both heard the gospel of grace and wanted to be 'sincerely right' by placing all of their trust in Jesus...

ReachingTheLost-Mike-Barko-First-Day-At-JMU-Lukje-Liam

Liam..."I RENEWED MY FAITH. I GAVE MY TRUST TO HIM COMPLETELY."

Luke..."HE GAVE ME ETERNAL LIFE."

Josh attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Unfortunately, because of the constant emphasis upon 'Sabbath obedience', Josh was trusting in his obedience to the commandments instead of the sacrifice of Christ. Some people really do 'strain out a gnat but swallow a camel'.

After hearing the gospel, Josh was able to profess his faith in Christ alone...

What a joy to share with Sophia and Sarah! Again, sincere, but sincerely wrong...

Here is Jordan after hearing the gospel and praying with me...

"HE SAVED ME. (MY HEART FEELS) AMAZING."

Darron was raised in a Christian home. Lately, he had really been struggling. He, like Connor, was initially unsure about his faith.

The Spirit came and touched Darron. His parents efforts and prayers were bearing fruit..

"HE SAVED ME. (MY HEART FEELS) SO MUCH BETTER."

Darron thanked me several times as he left.

Finally, here is Jamie. She hoped God would let her into Heaven because she was 'honest and compassionate'. She understood those things were 'not good enough' and wanted to trust in Christ instead...

AT THE CROSS

Charles walked by just as I was leaving. He accepted a bracelet and told me he was "90% sure of going to Heaven because he had given himself to the Lord."

I spoke to a young man many years ago who was very frustrated. He kept trying to give Himself to the Lord but remained unsure of his salvation. What this really amounts to is salvation by works.

God does not accept our life as payment for our sins. It is His life that pays for our sins. He has already given His life as full payment for our sins. Charles was able to trust in that and became 100% sure of his salvation.

Just as Charles left, a car pulled up and a man thanked me. We both talked about how the world desperately needs revival. This man then gave me a $100 bill. Can you say, "Glory Hallelujah!"

ON TO THE CAR SHOW

Thanks to Johan, Rob, and Karen for your help. Here is a young boy that I was able to lead to Jesus. I was amazed at how the Spirit worked and how this young boy really seemed to understand the gospel when we finished. Karen was able to lead his mother to Jesus. All these children's faces were painted by a dear sister in Christ from our church, Chris Kennedy.

Here is Trinity (see below). Mom listened as I shared. Dad came at the end. Initially, Trinity had no clue why God would let her into Heaven. I was amazed at her understanding after she heard the gospel and placed her faith in Jesus. I am really thorough with certain questions, and was so blessed to see these children really understand the gospel. Mom and dad were already saved.

Here is Ruefer (See below). This encounter was a huge spiritual battle. He was trusting in his works, but was initially not able to see it. The Spirit came little by little. Several times he expressed his frustration and became visibly upset. I thought he might leave.

Ruefer humbled himself at the end and wanted to trust Christ as his Savior.

"HE JUST ACCEPTED ME INTO HEAVEN."

He actually thanked me several times before and left and said to me...

"Thank you. Keep sharing this. People need to hear."

Here is little Jordan and Shawn. Grandma and Grandpa are to the left and dad is to the right. Grandma actually was crying when she understood we were sharing with her grandchildren.

Again, I was amazed at how these two children really understood the gospel and wanted to trust in God as their Savior. After both prayed to receive Christ, I then invited them to tell God what was on their hearts. Listen to little Jordan's prayer...

"GOD, I LOVE YOU. I BELIEVE IN YOU. I GAVE YOU ALL OF MY TRUST."

The last person I spoke to was a little boy named Frank. He initially was 75% sure of Heaven because he 'fought with his sister'. This is what kept him from being 100% sure.

Now, the real question is, 'Why was he 75% sure?' In other words, what was he really trusting in that made him 75% sure that he would go to Heaven. He told me...

"I help around the house. I do my homework. I listen to my dad."

Notice the three "I"s. When I pointed this out to little Frank, he understood that he was trusting himself, and not God. He really wanted to place his trust in God alone. Kids really do understand, if we will take the time to help them.

After praying to trust God as his Savior, I asked him what he wanted to tell me.

"I PLACED MY TRUST IN GOD."

Finally, Rob took Karen and I out for dinner after the event. When our waitress Anel brought us the food, I asked her to bless the food for us. She actually did, and said a wonderful prayer in Spanish.

After dinner, when she brought the check, I offered her a bracelet and asked the diagnostic questions. Anel was only 20% sure of going to Heaven. After hearing the gospel and placing her trust in Christ alone, she became 100% sure and said...

"HE SAVED ME."
